About what are good cities to find theatre work in

What are good cities to find theatre work in?
I recently received my bachelor's degree in theatre and am in the position to move, just about anywhere...but I'd like to know where there are hubs of theatre where I can find good, paying work. Washington and Texas states are preferred, but I'm open to other suggestions. If you list somewhere, please tell me why/give me actual reasons/theatre names. Don't say Hollywood or Broadway, please, let's be realistic.
Performing Arts - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Send your resume out to various Theaters in the areas where you want to work. Even Hollywood and Broadway hire occasionally. Seattle has a large theatre community as does Austin and Houston. If you don't get a hit from any of those, try to contact the theatre unions in those towns. Also look into going on the road with a band or show. Just get out there and look, there are all kinds of ways to get a job.
Answer 2 :
If you're really looking for theatre, NYC, Chicago & Atlanta are your main hubs - Dallas has a few theatre spots as well. Why not bway? You say "be realistic" but Washington & Texas are clearly "unrealistic" for theatre. Are you a member of a union? That will determine where you'll get the most work. Atlanta is a right to work state, so you don't have to be equity to work there. But if you want to get paid, you need an equity card....that goes for Chi-town and NYC and Dallas. actual reasons - bcuz those are theatre hubs....... theatre names - you should probably do sum research yourself.

About where do Republicans who work in Washington live

Where do Republicans who work in Washington live?
I doesn't seem like they live in D.C. or Arlington, so where?
Washington, D.C. - 9 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
They live in denial because they are a bunch of hippocrytes.
Answer 2 :
There are certain reasons that the American public shouldn't know where politicians live.
Answer 3 :
Suburban Virginia. Liberals tend to prefer to live in the District of Columbia itself.
Answer 4 :
Wherever they wish. Prolly on really nice estates too. Just like all the other politicians.
Answer 5 :
While some GOPers live in DC, they tend to flock to the Commonwealth of Virginia, since they feel safer in "a death penalty state." (I swear, a hard core GOPer once suggested living in VA for this stated reason.) They also prefer VA because it provides for legal discrimination against gays. It should be noted, however, that Northern VA is quite Democratic. The DC 'burbs (Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, etc.) are the reason Sen. Webb won in '06 and swung the Senate Democratic.
Answer 6 :
If the Liberals had their- way probably in the parks on benches instead of Red-Roof Inn's.
Answer 7 :
In more of the upscale cities such as Potomac, Md, Chevy Chase, Gaithersburg, Germantown. and certain parts of Va such as Fairfax, Rossyln, Tysons Corner area and its a couple more cities and towns in Va too just cant think of them right now.
Answer 8 :
The White House
Answer 9 :

About if I work in Washington state, but live in Oregon, will I pay Oregon income tax

If I work in Washington state, but live in Oregon, will I pay Oregon income tax?
I have a chance to get a government job in Vancouver Wa. but I want to live in Gresham Oregon. Is wages earned in Washington taxable in Oregon?
United States - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I'm not positive, you should check with a professional, but I'm pretty sure you'll pay Oregon income tax. I know a lot about the tax system (my grandfather was a CPA), but confirm that with a professional, not me.
Answer 2 :
You pay state income tax where you live & either the employee or employer pay state unemployment tax where you work.....so the answer is yes. You will pay Oregon state tax if applicable...
Answer 3 :
Yes
Answer 4 :
Generally speaking, a person who works in one state and lives in another must report the income to both states, but effectively pays tax only at the tax rate of whichever state has higher taxes. If both states tax the same income, then the person claims a credit on one return for either the tax paid to that state on income also taxed by the other or tax paid to the other state on the income also taxed by the first state whichever is less. To clarify, the credit only applies to tax on income taxed by both states, not to tax on income tax by only one of the states. In the specific case of an Oregon resident with income from Washington state, for 2007, you could claim the credit on your Form 40 Oregon resident return, line 38. For 2007, your credit was the smallest of the following: • Your Washington State 2007 net tax liability. • Your Oregon tax liability after all credits, except the credit for income taxes paid to Washington. • The amount figured using the following formula: Divide your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI) taxed by both states [this would be the amount earned in Washington] by your total MAGI. Multiply the result by your Oregon tax after subtracting all other credits. In other words, your MAGI taxed by both states ×Your Oregon tax after subtracting all other credits / Your total MAGI. For 2008, the rules will probably be similar, but the line number might change. Oregon does not tax active duty U.S. military pay earned outside of Orgeon. If this income was reported on your federal tax return, you include it on your Oregon return, but claim a subtraction using code 319. This does not apply to work as a civilian federal employee or to national guard/reserve weekend training.
Answer 5 :
Yes. If Washington State had a tax, you would end up filing both Oregon and Washington. ( You would just do NON RESIDENT for the state you did NOT live in.) But since WASHINGTON is a NO STATE INCOME TAX state. You just gotta do OREGON (+ Federal). Oregon taxes you because you live there, use their roads, their housing, their policing, etc etc. And if sometimes it really sucks, I lived in Multnomah county once, and I worked in Vancouver, I had to pay, Federal + Oregon + Multnomah County itax. ( That really sucked, what's next BLOCK TAX? - can you believe a county can make you file & pay taxes too?

Answer 2 :
Use the metro. It's pretty safe, and not TOO expensive when you're comparing the exorbitant gas prices.
Answer 3 :
DEFINITELY the Metro. I live close to DC and the traffic is horrendous!! You do not want to drive anywhere!! Trust me!
Answer 4 :
Live in the city and walk or take the Metro - driving into the city in the morning is a nightmare!
Answer 5 :
Living in DC? DC is too expensive if you want to live anywhere nice. Generally the closer to DC the more expensive it is. Virginia is nicer, in my opinion. Commuting? METRO, METRO, METRO! Live and die with your SmarTrip card if you are working near DC. After you learn your route you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. http://www.wmata.com/riding/smartrip.cfm

About i work in Washington State and my employer will not allow me back to work pending results from a mental health

I work in Washington State and my employer will not allow me back to work pending results from a mental health?
. . . Pending results from a mental health professional. I am trying to find out if it is legal for my employer (a private company not involved with national or public safety or security) to require this of me, and what I am entitled to as far as pay is concerned for the lost time this is costing me on the job.

The company has the legal right to require that you show mental stability before allowing you to return to work, although you did not say something must have happened to cause concern in that area and it is your responsibility to provide proof.

About why is Obama so reluctant to go work in Washington

Why is Obama so reluctant to go work in Washington?
It's only since he was called by the President to come that he reluctantly agreed to do so. Is it not important that no matter who is elected, that person have a say in our economic future?
Politics - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Going to work in Washington? He'd show up and people might actually review his credentials: 143 days as the coat check boy. Having reviewed this small, insignificant fact, people might actually begin to question his ability to lead the nation and the world.
Answer 2 :
Probably because he's not on the committee to work on this whole Wall Street mess. The folks who are on that comittee almost have it worked out, they don't want some Johnny-come-lately swooping in with his pen and saying, "lemme just add this here and take away that there..." It alomst seems like McCain is baiting Obama to contribute to the legislation, then if it doesn't work our right, he'll point the finger and say "See - Obama's name is on that. he doesn't know what's best". Neither of them think the current plan is the best solution.

Low cost and free dentistry is possible. Contact your local county dental society for information on dentists who are willing to donate services. (For example: Spokane County Dental Society or Pierce County Dental Society). You may find lower cost dentistry at the University of Washington, but it's not usually free and their is a significant waiting list.

Law & Ethics - 6 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Was it in your job description?
Answer 2 :
Yes. If you're asked to do something at work, you're supposed to do it. If you don't want to, find a different job.
Answer 3 :
In almost every state, unless you have a (union) contract to the contrary, you can be fired for no reason at all, let alone refusing to do what you're told, to the best of your ability.
Answer 4 :
Yes. Someone has to clean it up. You are a prima donna. Expect many more firings.
Answer 5 :
There is no such thing as a 'just' reason to be fired. They can fire you for no reason at all, refusing to do your job is actually a very good reason. There is no law that bars minors from cleaning urine. Do you think you are too good for the job, but it's okay for others to have to do it? How's that working for you?
Answer 6 :
FLSA (federal labor laws) prohibit dangerous jobs for minors. That is not dangerous, otherwise you could not have babysitters. So yes, you disobeyed a direct order.

About my spouse and I are separating. Because I work in Washington State

My spouse and I are separating. Because I work in Washington State?
I am thinking of renting a home in Washington State, and allowing my spouse and children to continue living in Oregon. Would I owe Oregon Income Tax if this were my living situation?
United States - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Your tax situation depends on where you work, not where you live.
Answer 2 :
No, you would owe taxes in the state where you worked. If you and your husband file joint income taxes and Oregon has a state tax, you would have to pay taxes on what your husband earned in Oregon.
Answer 3 :
If you live in Washington State the entire year, you will not owe Oregon income tax because you are no longer an Oregon resident. If you move to Washington and live there only part of the year, you will file as a part-year resident of Oregon and owe a proportionate amount of income tax. You need to file a separate return for the above.
Answer 4 :
I am assuming you are not a same-sex couple. You owe Oregon taxes on all of your income earned anywhere in the world if you are an Oregon resident. You also owe Oregon taxes on income earned from Oregon sources no matter where you live. If you abandon your Oregon residence completely without intention of returning soon, you won't owe any Oregon taxes unless you work in Oregon, have a business in Oregon, win money from an Oregon casino, etc. Remember that you would still owe Oregon taxes for the period of time before you moved out of Oregon. Keep in mind that Washington is a community property state, but Oregon is a common law state. The fact that you live in Washington means that your spouse will own half of anything you earn while the community still exists under Washington law. This presents a tax problem for your spouse (not you, since Washington doesn't have an income tax). Essentially this means that your spouse will have to pay Oregon income tax on half the money you earn, even though you don't live or work in Oregon. Please refer to the examples on page 19 of Oregon Publication 17 1/2: http://www.oregon.gov/DOR/PERTAX/docs/2009Forms/101-431-09.pdf Under Washington law, the community ends when the marriage becomes "defunct." You should consult with your divorce attorney about how this applies to your marriage. I would suggest that your spouse work with a qualified tax practitioner to file their taxes as the issues of community property are difficult for most people to understand. As for you, if you choose to file a separate federal return, you are also going to have to deal with community property issues. You may also wish to consult with a qualified tax practitioner. And some non-tax advice: If there is the possibility of a divorce or legal separation in your future, consult with a divorce attorney before making the decision to move to Washington. Your move could have a major impact on your property rights in the event of a divorce.
Answer 5 :
if you are working in Wash for more than a temporary assignment, one that is likely to be permanent, you will file your tax home as Wash. not sure I understand your meaning of separation--is this something that will be permanent? if you have moved as of June 30 for the remainder of the year, without a single overnite, you can file as single-- the spouse also single and if the children reside with the spouse, head of household but the June 30-Dec. 31, time line is critical, not a single overnite during that time

I work at Washington Mutual - Are there circumstances where I might not receive severance if I am laid off?
What if the company goes bankrupt...would I still receive severance if this happens? Or what if just my division goes under (I work in the mortgage division)...could I still get it then? I have worked here for 7 years so I would hope that I would get somthing!
Personal Finance - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
If WAMU is like most major companies they will provide a written plan for how severance works. Two things that may affect you are: 1. Separation date... If you leave before the comapany wants you to leave (such as if you find a new job) then you may lose some or all severance pay. 2. The company will probably ask you to sign a waiver that prevents you from suing them for almost anything that happened while you were employed by them. If you sign it they will offer you the "good" severance package. If you don't they will offer you a weak package. It is called "financial incentive" and its perfectly legal in most states. Of course poor performance near the end of your employement could get you fired (no package) as well as hurt your chances of getting a new job elsewhere so keep up the good work right up to the very last second. "Don't burn your bridges" as they say.

About if I live in Washington and work in Oregon am I better off contributing to my Traditional IRA instead of Roth

If I live in Washington and work in Oregon am I better off contributing to my Traditional IRA instead of Roth?
Does Oregon tax the income I contribute to my traditional IRA? Will Oregon be able to tax IRA distributions once I retire and live in Washington? I have always worked in Washington until recently so it always made sense to contribute to my Roth, but now that I am paying Oregon income tax, I wonder if it might be smart to contribute to the traditional if that state defers taxes on traditional contributions and will not be able to tax distributions once I quit working there.
United States - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Does Oregon tax the income I contribute to my traditional IRA? If all of your income is from your job in Oregon, you will get the full deduction for your traditional IRA. If you have income from outside of Oregon, you get a pro-rated deduction. Will Oregon be able to tax IRA distributions once I retire and live in Washington? No. Once you are no longer a wage earner in OR, you will not owe OR income tax on your retirement income. I assume you have no business income in OR. If you have a traditional deductible IRA, both your federal and OR income taxes will be reduced in the year of contribution. If you have a Roth IRA, you will pay federal and OR income taxes in the year of contribution. If the OR tax on your Roth IRA is significant to you, you can change over (in full or part) to a traditional IRA to reduce OR taxes in the year of contribution. I don't understand your logic in that from a WA resident perspective, a Roth IRA is better for you. You will pay no state income tax on your distributions from either a traditional IRA or a Roth IRA. Since you have no state income tax, your decision should be based on your federal income taxes, plus RMD requirements for a traditional IRA.
Answer 2 :
the point is, your tax home is where you work and if this is not a temporary, short term job in Oregon, you will file Oregon tax returns if you contribute to a reg IRA the amount causes a reduction in your taxable income, no matter where you file because most states take the figures from your 1040 to enter on the state and the IRA contribution is already figured in a Roth is not a tax advantage when you contribute or when you take distribution in any state

Your employer should notify you as well because they will receive legal notification. If this is an IRS situatuion then they will just seize the money. About if I live and work in Washington for a California based company do I pay CA state income tax

If I live and work in Washington for a California based company do I pay CA state income tax?
I currently work and live in CA. I am in the process of moving to WA where I will be telecommuting for the same CA company. I will only be in CA maybe once a month for a meeting. Will I still have to pay CA state income tax and CA disability even though I live in WA? How does that work?
United States - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
My husband was a long haul driver...company based in Arkansas. But we lived in WA and he never was even in AR. He had to pay AR state taxes. You can ask the payroll dept of the company
Answer 2 :
If CA decides to treat this the way that NY does, you will still pay CA state income taxes. In NY, if the move is strictly for the convenience of the employee, state income taxes are still due. In general though you won't pay CA income taxes if you live and work outside of CA, regardless of where your employer is based.
Answer 3 :
You pay income tax on earnings to the state where you earn it. That is California and will shortly become Washington (where state income tax is zero.) If you had any California source income, from rentals for example, you would pay California tax on that.
Answer 4 :
your tax home is where you work, except for short, temporary, less than a year's duration assuming this is self employment you will file a 540 NR on your Calif. income and the amount of time you are actually in Calif. will have an impact on the amount of taxes you pay

I'm in the same situation as you! Coyote Central offers a Hit the Streets program, but the deadline has closed-- you can try next year. Camp Fire USA's Youth Volunteer Corps has a program where you can earn a post-high school savings account of $500 for each 100 hours of service you do under their program. Hope this helps! King County also has a resource website for volunteers. See if your friends parents can offer you a job! And you can always sell stuff (garage sale, make jewelry, etc.) If you're the artsy kind like me, people are always looking for art to display. And yes, you do get paid
